Let’s help to our motherland Serbia

IA FAST HELP – IS A TWOFOLD HELP.

In the second place in this volume the readers will find the address of Mr. M. I. Pupin, President of the Serbian National Defense Council of America. In that address it was published that finally, after hard effort, the American Red Cross succeeded in sending their representative to Serbia to help the poor, so all the Serbs in America were invited to help as much as they could. They especially called upon the organizations and boards which collected the money to send it to the Serbian National Defense so that it could be sent to Serbia as soon as possible.
This is the address which we want to bring to the attention of our readers and to ask them to get involved as brothers and Serbs as soon as possible.
All the cattle and food from Serbia and the Balkans in general has been collected from the places where the Germans are located. Due to hardships and lack of people this year’s harvest was unusually poor. The whole of Serbia has been left to children, women and the crippled elderly.
However, these children are the offspring of liberators and the crippled ones gave the parts of their bodies so that the rest of the enslaved could catch the rays of the Serbian liberating sun.
One has to bear this in mind all the time: today, tomorrow, and as long as the sun shines.
Our freedom is solely and only a work of those Serbian martyrs.
Our debt toward them is big, huge.
The suffering of our martyrs has been increased with numerous rebellions caused by predatory agitation of Austro-Prussian and Bulgarian bandits. Many of our people have fled to the woods from where they have led an old brigand battle. In order to take revenge on those rebels, the conquerors started to punish peaceful and helpless people. Thereby whole cities and regions were robbed. One can see this in the reports about registering Austrian war loans in Serbia by Austrian, Hungarian and Croatian papers. This loan is nothing but a punishment inflicted upon some cities and regions. Čačak was robbed in that way because of the rebels who escaped to the mount Rudinik and fought from there. Similar news comes from Montenegro. There the colonel Vešović escaped to the hills which is why Austrian bandits caught and hanged his younger brother and announced a rich reward to the one who catches or kills the colonel. Austrian newspapers from Belgrade complain about the Serbs because they do not want to hand in all weapons. Austrian governor and count Salis Seewis says again that Serbian “prophets” are confusing people and saying that the Austrians will soon be dislodged from Serbia. All of these are signs that our people in Serbia are suffering and because of that they rebel and flee to the woods.
Two months ago Dr. Ryan, the representative of American Red Cross, went to Belgrade via Switzerland. Moreover, there are also the representatives of the Rockefeller Foundation who were prevented from working in Poland. They managed to take great sums of money and amount of food to Serbia and tried to help the poor as much as they could. Now when American and Swiss Red Cross are occupied it is possible to send money to Serbia and help the destitute. That is why we are addressing again our good Serbs to use this chance, perhaps in these last hours of temptation, to once again prove their gratitude toward our liberators – the Serbian heroic poor.
So, go ahead with contributions!
And those who give fast, give twice!
